Free poker training: what is actually free, and how to use it
“Free” in poker training usually means a seven-day trial or a paywall after three hands. This page lists what is genuinely free, in Zayrion and everywhere else we could verify, and gives you a 30-day plan that costs nothing.
Short answer. Zayrion’s free tier gives you a real solver-solved Hand of the Day, the full lessons from zero, and streaks, leagues and rating, with no expiry and no card. Beyond that, GTO Wizard’s free plan, PokerCoaching.com’s free quizzes, Poker Trainer’s free exercises and Run It Once’s free videos are the best no-cost resources we know. Put together, they are enough to go from beginner to competent at small stakes. What they will not do is find your leaks; that is what paid tiers are for.
What is free in Zayrion

How to get better for free in 30 days
A plan that costs nothing but ten to twenty minutes a day. It assumes you play 6-max cash; tournament players can swap Zayrion for Octopi or DTO’s MTT free spots.
Days 1–7: fundamentals
- Zayrion: Hand of the Day, every day. Start the streak. Read the lessons from zero, one a day.
- Poker Trainer: ten minutes of preflop and hand-ranking exercises. Boring, and the fastest gain there is.
- GTO Wizard free: look up the opening range for each position once. Do not memorise; just see the shape.
Days 8–14: preflop discipline
- Zayrion: Hand of the Day plus the preflop charts. Before each real session, check one position’s chart.
- PokerCoaching free quizzes: two a week. Notice where the coach’s reasoning surprises you.
- Write down the three preflop spots you were unsure of this week. That list is your curriculum.
Days 15–21: postflop patterns
- GTO Wizard free: use your one postflop spot a day on a spot from your list.
- Run It Once free videos: one, watched twice. Once for the content, once writing down every decision you would have made differently.
- Zayrion: keep the streak. Your rating will now be moving; watch which way.
Days 22–30: review and decide
- Go back over your unsure-spot list. Which ones can you now answer? Which keep coming back?
- The ones that keep coming back are your leaks. Free tools have shown you they exist; they cannot drill them for you.

Where free stops being enough
Free tiers teach fundamentals and show you the product. Three things they do not do. They do not find your leaks, because that needs your data across hundreds of decisions, and free tiers cap the decisions. They do not give you unlimited solver feedback, because that is the expensive part. And they do not hold you to a plan, because nothing you have not paid for holds you to anything. If you reach day 30 with the same three spots still on your list, that is the moment a paid trainer or a coach earns its price. DTO Cash gives one free spot. Postflop+ is free to download and try. None of them give you unlimited free solver practice; that is what the paid tiers are for.
Can I get good at poker for free?
You can get from beginner to solid at low stakes for free if you are disciplined: daily Hand of the Day, the free lessons, free preflop charts and free quizzes cover the fundamentals. What free tools do not do is find your specific leaks and drill them; that is where paid tiers earn their money, and why the 30-day plan below ends with a decision rather than a purchase.
What is the catch with free tiers?
Daily limits and missing feedback. Free tiers are built to show you the product, not to replace the paid one. The honest way to use them is to build the habit for free, then pay for the one tool whose paid tier matches how you actually study.
Do I need a solver to learn GTO?
No. A solver is research software costing $75 to €800 that needs a Windows PC. Trainers serve you spots that are already solved. For learning, free and low-cost trainers cover far more than most players will ever use.
Is free poker training the same as free-play poker apps?
No. Play-money poker apps are games; you play against strangers with fake chips and nobody tells you whether your decisions were right. Training tools grade your decisions. Zayrion is a training tool: educational, no real-money play, 18+.
